Tour Journal
Hey guys. We finally got around to writing this thing, even though our first tour ended about a week ago. We'll be better this next time around, we promise! So here's a somewhat brief recap of what we did, where we went, and what happened to us.
We picked chris up at his house to leave on the first day of tour, heading down the east coast with mason (www.myspace.com/mason), and while turning around got stuck. Needless to say, getting stuck with a 15 passenger van and trailer isn't too much fun. We lucked out and were able to get it out pretty easily, but getting stuck within the first 5 minutes of leaving wasn't the best thing for our confidence of the tour. The east coast was a lot of fun for us to play, we had family members almost the entire way down to stay with which made things a lot easier. Mason is a great band and are all great guys which made things a lot more fun.
After spending a few days at Ryan's parents house in FL, we headed north to connect up with The Story Changes (www.myspace.com/thestorychanges), and Autumn And The Wasp (www.myspace.com/autumnandthewasp). We toured the mid-west with those guys and it was a blast. We had some people come out to see us in Ohio that'd seen us before which was great. We ended that part of the tour in Pittsburgh where we got to see our great friends Mike Caminiti and Sean Parrot-Wolfe from Portland, now living out there. It was the St. Patty's day celebration there, even though it was a week early, and there were drunk people everywhere. Pittsburgh was probably the oddest, but coolest city I've been to. I absolutely loved it, some of the other guys absolutely hated it. It had a weird vibe, but if you're ever near it make sure to spend some time there. The area where we played was all tattoo shops and small restaurants. We met the guys in ClearviewKills there, and they were really cool to us. Then Texas.
We got lucky enough to play with MCR and our friends in TREOS at South By Southwest in Austin, Texas and had one of the most fun times of our lives. We spent the week being the Fearless Records street team, which meant getting drunk and handing out sampler cds all day long. The weather was incredible too. We always thought that SXSW was kind of overhyped by everything we read and saw on tv about it, but after going we realized how incredible it was; it really does live up to all of the hype. However, on leaving, we got pulled over for a broken taillight on our trailer and were searched by a drug-sniffing dog, which managed to bite holes through two of our seats and scratch up the entire outside of our van. Luckily we don't do drugs, so we were fine on that end, but the fact that we were searched and all of that happened really sucked. Guess it's what happens when you're in a band that looks different and are from out of state.
Meeting up with The Higher (www.myspace.com/thehigher), Lydia (www.myspace.com/lydia), and some boys from back in the northeast These Green Eyes (www.myspace.com/thesegreeneyes) began the last part of our tour. All three bands were great, and touring with them was really fun. We just heard that The Higher has signed with a label so we're really really pumped for those guys, they deserve to blow up. We ended up in Los Angeles visiting with our AR rep Kevin and meeting his wife Rachael, who brought us up to date on the cool shows we'd been missing out on for the past two months. We also got to meet everyone at the label for the first time which was cool.
Two months on the road and we were unbelievably ready to be home and see our families, friends, and girlfriends (those of us who have them). Seeing the country was great, but we enjoy the laid back vibe Maine has, and it is awesome to be back. Chris got on some weird kick and drove 1100 miles straight, pretty much all night and most of a morning, on the way from Austin to Maine. Don't ask me how, but it was definitely awesome to sleep for a full night while someone else was driving and not have to switch off every few hours. We finally got home, and got to sleep in beds. You'd be surprised how much you'll learn to appreciate a clean bed when you've been sleeping on floors and in a dirty van almost every night. We love you all, thanks for the support. We're glad to play for everyone that came out to see us, we hope to be back soon.
We're heading out on the reptilian empire tour in less than a week and are all really excited for it. We got to play a couple of shows back here in Maine and it was great to have you all sing along and know our songs and us. We'll keep the journal updated during it too, we promise!
